European Communities Advisory Board

. The European Canadian Directory (ECD) is best administered with the assistance of the European Communities Advisory Board.

The role of the European Communities Advisory Board (ECAB) is described below.

European Communities Advisory Board:
(1) - work with the European Ethnic Communities individuals and groups or organizations who are involved in the planning and the administration of the Supporting European Ethnic Communities Partnerships,
(2) - are community-based multi-partner project proposal review committees,
(3) - accept and review proposals for eligibility under ECD terms and conditions,
(4) - review proposals to determine how well they address the priorities in the ECD plan on the basis of inclusiveness, fairness and transparency.

Board members.
Persons should have experience in the following:
(1) - assessment and review of proposals,
(2) - evaluation of program/project outcomes,
(3) - knowledge of the needs of individuals and their special needs,
(4) - working with the not-for profit sector, government sectors, volunteer associations, Boards of Directors on project management,
(5) - financial review and assessment of projects, grants or loans or budget management experience,
(6) - working in a team environment to achieve consensus in decision making,
(7) - commitment to the community.

AN INVITATION

Persons must be committed to dedicating the time for proposal review and assessment and overseeing the community’s progress in achieving its goals as outlined in the community’s plan for addressing Canadian Immigrants and their families. Individuals on the European Communities Advisory Board (ECAB) must be able to discharge their responsibilities in a fair, unbiased manner, respect the confidentiality of information and must not be in a conflict of interest situation because their organization may be submitting proposals that would be vetted by the ECAB.

The mission of the ECAB is to provide guidance and input to the European Canadian Directory in carrying out the mission of the ECD to improving the health and well-being of ethnic minority communities and individuals throughout the Canada.

The Board consist of several professionals who have experience in prevention, service delivery, research, and policy development.

ECD provides culturally appropriate and relevant information and services from pan-European perspectives, which emphasize family unity and strengths, understanding of Canadian society, culture and service systems. The ECD helps build a visible presence and strong network in the European communities, which supports our children young people and their families. European children, young people and their families gain skills to better understand and become contributing members of Canadian society. European children, young people and their families gain skills necessary to overcome barriers to academic success, gainful employment, and independent living. European children, young people and their families have access to positive, culturally-relevant and appropriate alternatives to delinquent behaviour, and avoid continued involvement with the juvenile justice system. European parents, children and young people receive support to reunite the family, occupy appropriate roles within the family, and enjoy positive family relationships.
